Strong first half powers Pioneers

Johnson scores season-high six goals in nonconference road victory over Saint Mary's College

NOTRE DAME, Indiana - Sophomore midfielder Michaela Johnson (Mukwonago, Wis.) finished with a season-high six goals and two assists as the Carroll University women's lacrosse team defeated Saint Mary's College 16-9 in a nonconference game at the Purcell Athletic Fields on Saturday afternoon.
It was the fourth consecutive victory for Carroll, which won on the road for the third time this season and improved to 5-1 overall.
Johnson also contributed five groundballs, won three draw controls, caused two turnovers and converted on a free-position shot for the Pioneers, who outscored Saint Mary's 10-5 in what became a decisive first half - including seven unanswered goals over a 10-minute stretch.
Sophomore midfielder Courtenay Karls (Waukesha, Wis.) followed with a hat trick for Carroll, which was outshot 28-23 but generated 20 shots on goal.
Sophomore midfielder Alyssa Scharff (Nashotah, Wis.) collected two goals and two assists for the Pioneers, who recorded their second-highest goal total of the season. Sophomore midfielder Clara Jelacic (Waukesha, Wis.) had two goals, fielded seven groundballs, won six draw controls and caused two turnovers.
Freshman attacker Rachel Fordham (Waukesha, Wis.) had one goal and a team-best four assists with senior midfielder Ariannah Ritter (Sun Prairie, Wis.) and senior attacker Amanda Ferr (Franklin, Wis.) each adding a goal.
Ritter and senior defender Delaney Pruitt (Ringwood, Ill.) each had an assist while senior defender/midfielder Brittney Wald (Antigo, Wis.) contributed six groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Senior goalkeeper Shelby Schoob (Sun Prairie, Wis.) registered 11 saves for the Pioneers.
Sophomore midfielder Erin Doyle scored a team-high five goals for Saint Mary's, which dropped to 3-4 overall.
