WAUKESHA, Wis. – A five run sixth inning proved fatal for Carroll University (6-9, 0-1 CCIW) as the fell to UW-Superior 9-5 on a brisk Sunday afternoon.
UW-Superior jumped out to the early lead in the first inning as a two-out double, followed by a walk and a second double plated two runs for the Yellow Jackets giving them the early 2-0 advantage.
The Pioneers would get back into the game with a run in the fourth inning and eventually take the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth at 3-2.
The lead would be short lived as the lead-off batter for UW-Superior in the top of the sixth would homer to left field to tie the game at three. From there the inning would unravel as the Jackets would plate four more runs in the inning on just one hit. Two walks and error and a pair of hit batters would spell doom for the Pios.
