CHICAGO, Ill. – Carroll University (7-11, 0-3 CCIW) dropped both ends of their CCIW double-header on Tuesday at North Park University (11-7, 4-2 CCIW) by the finals of 8-6 and 10-8.
Game one, North Park would stake itself to the early lead with a pair of runs in the first.
The Pioneers would cut the lead in half in the top of the second as Alex Kermendy would triple to lead off the inning and later score on a Mitch Massino basehit to left to put the Pios on the board 2-1.
Carroll would take the lead with a four run top of the fifth. Four consecutive two-out singles by Massino, TJ Pfaffle, Sam Harmeyer and Josh Kolb would put the Pios in front 5-2.
North Park would answer back with four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to retake the lead 8-5.
Carroll would mount a rally in the ninth inning, Kermendy would single to lead-off the inning and score to cut the lead to 8-6. The Pios would have the bases loaded with the tying run on second but a fly ball to right would drop into the glove of the North Park outfielder to end the rally in game one.
Game two saw the Pios take the early lead, Dylan Callahan would bang a deep fly ball to left center field off the pressbox to give Carroll the 1-0 after one inning.
In the second, Harmeyer and Kolb would bang out back-to-back RBI doubles to extend the Pio lead to 3-0.
North Park would rally with four runs in the fourth inning and another single run in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead.
Carroll would answer with a five run sixth inning. Ethan Fleigle, Pfaffle and Harmeyer would each drive in runs and Kolb would deliver a two-RBI double to push the Pioneer lead to 8-5.
Unfortunately, the North Park bats would stay hot as they would plate four more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to rally for the 10-8 victory to sweep the double header.
Carroll University will return to action on Wednesday as they wrap up their non-conference schedule as they host Wisconsin Lutheran College at 4pm.
