MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Freshman left fielder
Katelyn Schneider (Sussex, Wis.) went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and scored two runs as the Carroll University softball team defeated Alverno College 10-3 in the opening game of a nonconference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.
The dominant performance snapped a three-game losing streak for Carroll, which improved to 11-9 overall.
The Pioneers collected the first two runs of the contest in the top of the first inning as senior right fielder
Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) scored as the result of an error and senior catcher
Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.) followed with a run-scoring fielder's choice grounder.
Carroll extended the lead to 4-0 in the second as freshman shortstop
Madison Wagner (Harrison, Wis.) delivered a run-scoring single to left field and Schneider drove in the eventual game-winner on an RBI single to center field.
Graves had a run-scoring single in the third for the Pioneers, who amassed 15 hits - including three doubles.
Schneider scored on an error and junior third baseman
Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) had an RBI sacrifice fly to left center field in the fourth.

The Pioneers added three runs in the sixth on an RBI single to center field by Demma (Orland Park, Ill.) and a two-run double from sophomore second baseman

Kaylee Learman (Greenwood, Wis.) was the winning pitcher, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks through 4 2/3 innings.
Senior Andie Vandertie and sophomore Kaitlynn Schmick each went 3-for-4 for Alverno, which dropped to 9-10 overall.
