Pioneers make history in CCIW opener

Carroll scores program-record 23 goals and records first-ever shutout versus Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. - Sophomore midfielder Michaela Johnson (Mukwonago, Wis.) contributed an individual season-high seven goals as the Carroll University women's lacrosse team defeated Elmhurst College 23-0 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin opener at Langhorst Field on Saturday afternoon.
It was the second straight victory and established a program record for goals in a single game for Carroll, which has won six of its last seven and improved to 7-2 overall. 
The dominant performance took on added significance as it was the first victory by shutout in program history.
Sophomore midfielder Clara Jelacic (Waukesha, Wis.) followed with six goals, two assists, fielded four groundballs, caused four turnovers and won a statement-making 13 draw controls for the Pioneers, who scored 16 goals in the first half - including eight in the opening 10 minutes.
Senior midfielder Ariannah Ritter (Sun Prairie, Wis.) collected a hat trick and senior attacker Amanda Ferr (Franklin, Wis.) had two goals for Carroll, which outshot the Bluejays 51-3 - highlighted by a 51-3 shot-on-goal advantage.
Senior midfielder Brittney Wald (Antigo, Wis.) scored her first collegiate goal on an unassisted shot in the second half. Senior midfielder Katie Majewski (Mundelein, Ill.), senior defender Delaney Pruitt (Ringwood, Ill.), sophomore midfielder Courtenay Karls (Waukesha, Wis.) and sophomore attacker Courtney Wright (Chicago, Ill.) each added a goal.
Senior goalkeeper Shelby Schoob (Sun Prairie, Wis.) made a save on Elmhurst's lone shot on goal with 7:45 remaining in the first half to preserve a shutout.
Elmhurst dropped to 0-2 in conference and 1-7 overall.
