Carroll finishes West Coast trip on high note

Pioneers defeat Univ. of La Verne to finish Pacific Coast Classic with 2-2 record

LA VERNE, Calif. - Senior outside hitter Sydney Wilkins (Portage, Ind.) contributed a team-high 11 kills, 12 digs, two service aces and a block as the Carroll University women's volleyball team defeated University of La Verne 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22 in its final match of the Pacific Coast Classic on Saturday afternoon.
It was the second consecutive dual-meet victory for Carroll, which completed the season-opening two-day West Coast tournament with a character-building 2-2 overall record.
Senior middle blocker Erika Dunnam (Shawano, Wis.) followed with 10 kills and two blocks for the Pioneers, who amassed 50 kills, 11 aces and five blocks in the contest - highlighted by an efficient .308 hitting percentage in the statement-making opening set. Senior outside hitter Cassidy Mrotek (Manitowoc, Wis.) finished with nine kills, 15 digs and two aces.
Junior middle blocker Rachel Noonan (Crystal Lake, Ill.) had five blocks with senior setter Emma Przeslicke (Evergreen Park, Ill.) collecting four aces and 21 assists. Senior setter Jennilyn Joy Cave (Bolingbrook, Ill.) added 19 assists.
Carroll showcased its mental toughness by committing only 10 errors in the showdown.
Pi'lkea Clemens had 15 kills for La Verne, which dropped to 1-3 overall.
