Pioneers win five-set thriller to cap first round of Red Hawk Invite

Mueller, Wilkins, Dunnam star as Carroll defeats Ripon to finish opening day with 2-0 record

RIPON, Wis. - Senior outside hitter Kylie Mueller (Fox Lake, Ill.) finished with a team-high 13 kills and four blocks as the Carroll University women's volleyball team outlasted Ripon College 22-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22, 15-11 in a five-set thriller to cap the opening round of the Red Hawk Invitational on Friday night.
It was the second five-set dual victory of the season for Carroll, which has won four of its last five and improved to 7-4 overall.
Senior outside hitter Sydney Wilkins (Portage, Ind.) followed with 12 kills and 15 digs for Carroll, which concluded the first round with a 2-0 record. Senior middle blocker Erika Dunnam (Shawano, Wis.) contributed 10 kills with junior middle blocker Rachel Noonan (Crystal Lake, Ill.) collecting six kills, eight blocks and two service aces.
The Pioneers, who registered a .364 hitting percentage in the decisive fifth set, led 11-10 and responded with a composed 4-1 run to put an exclamation point on the victory - capped on a final kill by Mueller.
Senior setter Emma Przeslicke (Evergreen Park, Ill.) collected two blocks, three aces and 23 assists for the Pioneers, who amassed 54 kills, nine aces, 11 blocks in the marathon battle. Senior setter Jennilyn Joy Cave (Bolingbrook, Ill.) had two aces and 20 assists.
Freshman defensive specialist Emily Konop (Oregon, Wis.) had 12 digs and sophomore outside hitter Lauren Griepentrog (De Pere, Wis.) added 10 digs.
Emily Allard finished with 20 kills and 16 digs for Ripon, which dropped to 2-7 overall.
