Pioneers struggle in opening round of tourney

Mueller finishes with team-high 11 kills in loss to Univ. of Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Senior outside hitter Kylie Mueller (Fox Lake, Ill.) contributed 11 kills as the Carroll University women's volleyball team lost to Dubuque University 21-25, 25-18, 27-25, 25-19 in its first match of the Dubuque Quad on Saturday afternoon.
It was the second consecutive dual-meet loss for Carroll, which dropped to 10-7 overall.
Junior outside hitter Sam Penzkowski (Racine, Wis.) followed with 10 kills, 14 assists and an assist for the Pioneers, who generated 16 kills with a .308 hitting percentage in winning the opening set. Senior middle blocker/outside hitter Erika Dunnam (Shawano, Wis.) had 10 kills.
Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Griepentrog (De Pere, Wis.) had three service aces and 16 digs for Carroll, which finished with 51 kills, seven aces and 50 assists in the contest. Freshman defensive specialist Emily Konop (Oregon, Wis.) had 20 digs and senior setter Jennilyn Joy Cave (Bolingbrook, Ill.) added 28 assists.
Kara Wright and Grace Hintze each had 15 kills to Dubuque, which improved to 9-7 overall.
