Fabian and Meiss Grab Athletes of the Week Honors

10/19/2020 1:34:00 PM

Waukesha, Wis. – Chris Fabian of men's swimming and diving and Emma Meiss of women's golf each grab this week's Marcos Pizza Pioneer Athletes of the Week for their contributions during their cohort practices the past week.

Fabian, a chemistry major, has shown high effort in and out of the pool. Fabian has been hardworking and has shown to be on track for competitive swims when the season begins. In the classroom, Fabian has done great work in all his lab assignments and exams. Fabian earned a nomination a week ago as well.

Meiss, a sophomore, has shown a strong desire to get better this fall season, and her work ethic has been tremendous. Emma has also become a strong leader by helping other golfers along the way. Coach Marcus Suelflow has said that having her as an experienced player is super helpful with the young team.

Other nominations include:
Elizabeth Sperlakis – Women's swimming and diving: Coach Gniotczynski has said that Sperlakis gives high effort day in and day out. She has been present physically and mentally during practice and has been in tune with her strengths and weaknesses. She performed very well during the team's Saturday practices as well.
Erik Hopp – Men's golf: Hopp shot a team low 35 through nine during practice this past week. Hopp, the men's team captain, has taken it upon himself to get his teammates involved with his strong leadership skills.
Clara Jelacic – Women's lacrosse: Jelacic has worked super hard in the weight room and on the field during their fall camp. She always pushes her teammates to be better and directs them to where they need to be working. She also was a part of the winning team during the team's scavenger hunt this past weekend.
Kayla Stefka – Women's basketball: Stefka "won the day" for her competition on Sunday, and even tested green light for the highest level of three pointers made of 100. Stefka is captain of the team and has been involved with SAAC this semester.
Allyssa Demma – Softball: Demma earns her second nomination in a row. Demma has had a hot bat in the team's front toss drills as of late, and she continues to set a great example for the catcher's group.
Max Campbell – Men's track and field: Campbell has made advancements in throwing technique this cohort. He also was the top player in the team laser tag activity.
Josie Eberle – Women's track and field: Eberle has been an influential leader in the multi-event group. Eberle is still "riding high" on her energy from breaking the school pentathlon record last season at the CCIW Indoor Championships.
Tyler Miller – Men's basketball
