Pioneers lose season opener

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Sophomore left fielder Tyler Love went 2-for-4 and drove in a run as the Carroll University baseball team lost to Sewanee 9-4 in the first game of a season-opening nonconference doubleheader at Montgomery Field on Saturday morning.
It was the first contest of a challenging three-game weekend road trip for Carroll, which collected five hits and stranded five runners on base.
Junior shortstop Brad Vosters, junior designated hitter Danny Glampe and sophomore third baseman Benton Holly each followed with a hit for the Pioneers.
Carroll collected its first run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Vosters. The Pioneers added three runs in the ninth, including an RBI single from Holly, a run-scoring triple by Love and an RBI sacrifice flyout by senior catcher TJ Pfaffle.
Senior right-hander Seth Smith took the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks through three complete innings.
