Second-half comeback falls short in season opener

Jelacic scores team-high seven goals in road loss to Albion College

ALBION, Mich. - Junior attacker Clara Jelacic scored a team-high seven goals as the Carroll University women's lacrosse team lost to Albion College 16-14 in a season-opening nonconference game at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.
Jelacic finished off an assist from junior midfielder Michaela Johnson to trim the deficit to 10-9 with 20:35 remaining but Albion responded with four unanswered goals over a critical five-minute stretch to seize the momentum.
Carroll freshman attacker Katrina Hardin followed with four goals, scoring twice within the final three minutes to trim it to a two-goal deficit.
Johnson contributed two goals, freshman attacker Jenna May had one goal and junior Courtenay Karls added an assist for the Pioneers, who were outshot 38-25 in the contest - including a 30-20 shot-on-goal margin.
Freshman goalkeeper Rebecca McDaniel registered 12 saves in playing 58 minutes for Carroll, which converted five free-position shots, won 19 draw controls and fielded 25 ground balls in the character-building outing.
Abby Sheklow and Darcy Muns each generated a hat trick for Albion, which improved to 1-1 overall.
