Carroll wins third straight

Pioneers score four unanswered goals to begin second half en route to 19-12 nonconference home-field victory

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Junior midfielder Michaela Johnson finished with a team-high six goals with two assists, five ground balls, three draw controls, three caused turnovers and converted on two free-poistion shots as the Carroll University women's lacrosse team defeated St. Mary's College 19-12 in a nonconference game at Schneider Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
It was the third consecutive home-field victory for Carroll, which improved to 3-1 overall.
The Pioneers led 8-7 at the intermission following a hard-fought first half and showcased a strong, offensive attack by outscoring St. Mary's 11-5 over the course of the final 30 minutes - highlighted by four unanswered goals over a critical, momentum-shifting three minute stretch.
Junior attacker Clara Jelacic followed with five goals, three assists, 16 draw controls, 13 ground balls and three caused turnovers for Carroll, which outshot St. Mary's 48-32 - including a 36-26 shot-on-goal margin. Junior midfielder Courtenay Karls contributed a hat trick, six ground balls, three draw controls, three caused turnovers and converted a free-position shot.
Sophomore midfielder Rachel Fordham collected two goals and a team-best five assists for the Pioneers, who generated 12 assists. Freshman attacker Katrina Hardin had two goals and two assists with junior attacker Courtney Wright adding the other goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Alicia Van Dale, making her second collegiate start, registered 14 saves in playing the entire 60 minutes.
Erin Doyle had a game-high eight goals for St. Mary's, which dropped to 0-3 overall.
