Pios continue to make progress in nonconference road loss

Schultz finishes with hat trick as Carroll generates season-high single-game goal total

MEQUON, Wis. - Senior midfielder/attackman Jeff Schultz finished with a hat trick as the Carroll University men's lacrosse team lost to Concordia University of Wisconsin 12-6 in a nonconference game at Fitting Field on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the first road loss of the early season for Carroll, which dropped to 0-3 overall.
Concordia, which improved to 3-1 overall, outscored the Pioneers 8-2 in the first half - including four unanswered goals in the opening quarter.
The Pioneers continued to make progress under determined first-year Carroll head coach Zack Olsen, generating a season-high single-game goal total in the process.
Senior midfielder Michael Peters followed with two goals and junior attackman Cordell McNamara had the other goal for Carroll, which was outshot 52-27 with a 30-14 shot-on-goal margin.
Junior attackman Airik Ranjo produced eight shots, junior defender Nolan Scholl fielded a team-best seven ground balls and sophomore midfielder Zach Mehrtens collected two assists.
Senior goalkeeper Abe Escarda played the first half and registered six saves for the Pioneers, who scored three goals in the fourth quarter. Sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Atella followed with 12 saves in playing the final 30 minutes.
Keijo Day contributed a game-high five goals and three assists for Concordia.
