Clermont, Fla. – The Carroll University Pioneers defeated Mount Union today in their first game of THE Spring Games, by a score of 1-0.
Amanda Osterhus pitched another shutout, her third straight, striking out 10 and only allowing three hits.
Claudia Spencer continued her hot streak at the plate by batting in the lone run of the game in the top of the first inning.
The team was able to collect seven hits in the game, including two from
Emily Green.
Lauren Harshbarger scored the run for the Pios after getting on base right away in the first inning. Three Pios struck out while three others were stranded on base. Harshbarger and
Madison Wagner were able to collect stolen bases as well.
After Harshbarger started the game with a single, Wagner came to first on a walk. A double steal advanced both runners and Spencer singled to score Harshbarger from third. Spencer ended the inning after a pickle situation.
Osterhus retired the first seven batters she faced, before giving up her first hit in the bottom of the third inning. She collected three more innings of no-hit ball before giving up a double in the bottom of the 7
th. A popup from the Purple Raiders ended the contest.
