Quick Start Powers Softball over Dartmouth

Pios shut out their opponents for the third straight game

Clermont, Fla. – The Carroll University Pioneers started day two of THE Spring Games with another shutout performance over UMass Dartmouth, 8-0. Kaylee Learman provided the sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning to score Lauren Harshbarger from third base. Amanda Osterhus picked up her fourth win in as many games started, striking out four over three innings pitched.

The Pioneers (6-1, 0-0 CCIW) got started early with five runs in the first inning. The final three runs were spread out over the next four innings. Madison Wagner, Learman, and Kate Christian collected two hits in the ball game, with the rest of the team earning five more apiece. Sierra Grubor added another stolen base to her season total, and Osterhus surrendered the lone error for the team.

The offense ripped off five straight singles in the bottom of the first to start the scoring barrage. Allyssa Demma smacked a double to center field to bring the score up to five and forced a pitching change by UMass.

The next inning, Wagner and Learman reached base, then Kate Christian hit a double of her own down the left field line to bring in Wagner, bringing the score to 6-0.

Osterhus allowed only one hit during her three innings of work, but walked three batters after short rest. Breanna Roberts came in relief for what would be the final two innings allowing only one hit and striking out two.

Emily Green walked to start the inning, and eventually scored on an error by the catcher with a play at the plate. Learman ended the game with her linedrive to centerfield, that scored Harshbarger in a game that lasted only an hour and a half.
