Women’s Soccer Gets Big CCIW Win at Home

The Pio Offense Came Back to Life at Schneider Stadium

Waukesha, Wis.  – The Carroll University women's soccer team picked up their first CCIW win of the season against the Millikin Big Blue on Saturday evening. The Pioneers won in a convincing 3-1 fashion. Jo Ueland scored and assisted on one of the Pioneer goals.

The Pioneers (9-3-2, 1-2-1 CCIW) put up 27 shots against the now 7-6 Big Blue, with eight attempts on goal. Maddie Belo led the team with six shots, while one finally broke through for her seventh goal this season. Elizabeth Weinberg and Jessica Stepien picked up assists on Ueland's goal, while Ally Scoma scored the game-winner in the first half unassisted in the 38th minute. The Pioneers took 10 corner kicks while holding the Big Blue to just one in the first half.

Weinberg put the first shot on goal in the first ten minutes of the contest, and the action would stay for the majority of the half in the Pioneer's attacking half. Carroll held possession for 52 percent of the first 45 minutes. Scoma's goal came off one of her blocked shots, that she played off the Millikin deflector. Millikin tried to counteract quickly, but Rachel Jenewein picked up her first save of the half in the 41st minute.

Carroll got started in the second half three minutes in with Ueland's goal assisted by Weinberg's throw-in and Stepien's pass. Millikin quickly responded on a play that pulled Jenewein off her line, as the ball rolled to the back of the net. Belo gave Carroll insurance twenty seconds later with her goal assisted by Ueland. The Big Blue got their next shot on goal on Jenewein in the 89th minute, but the graduate student keeper was able to put away the game for the Pioneers.

Carroll hosts in-state rival Carthage College on Wednesday, October 20 back at Schneider Stadium. Carthage and Carroll's last two results have been 0-0 2OT draws.
