DE PERE, Wis. – Three Pioneers scored 15+ points to pick up a neutral-site win against St. Mary's Indiana on Friday night, by a score of 86-57.
Brooke Foster led the starters with 17 points with six made free-throws.
Allison Thompson finished with a team-high nine rebounds, while
Elizabeth Behrndt dished out three assists.
The Pioneers (2-0, 0-0 CCIW) shot 17-29, or 58.6% in the first half to finish with a 30-point lead after two quarters. Carroll finished the game shooting 50% and 26.3% from three. The Carroll bench scored 53 of the team's 86 points, led by
Katie Rohner's and
Natalie Palzkill's 15 points each. 29 points came from 26 Belles turnovers, and Carroll dropped 50 points in the paint with 35 rebounds.
The Pioneers found themselves down early two minutes into the first quarter, but a 7-0 run fueled by Foster and Behrndt gave Carroll a lead. The Pios finished the first quarter on a 15-7 run to take a 27-15 lead.
Theresa Wichser (6 PTS, 2-5 3PM) scored two quick threes in the second quarter to push the Pio lead to 18 points.
Lauren Soyke (8 PTS) scored a fast-break layup off a turnover to bring the lead to 42-17 with 2:51 left in the first half. Foster knocked in two free throws to give Carroll a 30-point lead.
The Pios took the largest lead of the game late in the third quarter, as Oliva Rangel (9 PTS) took two free throws to bring the Carroll lead to 34. St. Mary's outscored Carroll 16-21 in the third quarter, but the damage was already done.
The Pioneers will take on tournament host St. Norbert on Saturday at 3 PM. The Green Knights of Norbert defeated conference opponent Carthage 53-47 after Carroll's win.
