Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll University women's volleyball team dropped its second straight home game to the Augustana Vikings by a score of 1-3 (20-25, 25-22, 15-25, 22-25). Katie Jensen led the team with 8.5 total points and eight kills, Emily Konop recorded 18 digs, and Kelly Reynolds tallied 14 assists.

The Pioneers (0-4, 0-4 CCIW) won their first set of the 2021 spring season, but could not overcome Augustana in the last two sets. The Pios finished with a .063 hitting percentage, including a nine-kill, .189% in the second set. The Pioneers recorded six blocks, a season-best, with Michelle Maraist and Sofia Camacho recording three each. Five different Pioneers recorded a service ace tonight as well.

In the first set, the Pioneers found themselves down 10-4, before Lindsey Hella recorded the Pios' first kill of the match. Down 16-6, The Vikings recorded four-straight errors before Sam Penzkowki landed a kill from Reynolds to cut the lead to five. Jensen, Sofia Camacho, and Penzkowski all landed kills to help cut the lead down to 19-21, but Augie capitalized on four of the next five possessions.

Carroll took advantage of Augustana errors to start up 4-1 in set number two. Emily Schliesman recorded a service ace to advance the lead 8-3. The Vikings came back and tied the game at 13-13, but the Pios regained the lead thanks to blocks from Penzkowski and Maraist, an ace by Konop, and a Jensen kill. Ashley Konecki nailed three-straight kills to keep the Pios lead, and Penzkowski put the nail in the coffin to put away the Vikings 25-22.

The Pios came out slow in the third set, down 3-10 early. Camacho recorded kills, blocks, and an ace to keep the Pioneers in the match, but it was too little too late, as Augie took set number three, 15-25. Jensen notched the first of nine Pio kills in the fourth set to put the first points on the board for Carroll. Camacho added three more kills to cut the lead to 7-12. The fourth set went back-and-forth from there, and Konecki cut the lead to three off a kill from Caitlin Laird. Augustana took a 24-19 lead, but Carroll fought until the end, dropping the final set on a service error, 22-25.

Carroll will play again on Tuesday, March 23 down in Elmhurst for a 5 PM start time. The Pioneers have won the last two games against the Bluejays, both by the score of 3-1.
