Kenosha, Wis. – The Carroll University men's track and field team finished second at Carthage college for the fourth week in a row, this time finishing with 115 points while batting with North Park and the Firebirds.
In the track events,
David Gilbert,
Kevin Lind, and
Sheldon Achs collected nine total points by finishing third, fourth, and fifth, respectively in the 55-meter dash. Gilbert also recorded a second place finish with a time of 23.29 in the 200-meter. Three Pioneers finished in the top four spots in the 400-meter run, including a win by
Jacob Radovan with a time of 55.45. Carroll sent four runners (
Zach Benes,
Nathan Raatz, River Srerud, and
Cooper Albert) to the 800-meter, and came away with the top four spots for a combined 19 points, including a gold medal finish from Benes with a time of 1:57.96.
Spencer Kirsteatter collected seven points in the 3,000-meter with a time of 8:53.18. Carroll's B team finished in first in the 4x400-meter run, with a collective time of 3:34.43.
In the field events, for the third event in a row,
Steven Hermsen broke his own weight throw record, with two throws recording a 17.81.
James Hinkley was not far behind either, adding four points to the total with a toss of 15.83-meters. Hermsen also collected a victory in the shotput with a throw of 15.32-meters, with
Max Campbell close behind with third.
David Burgess once again finished in first place with a high jump of 1.90-meters, clearing the mark in one jump. Lind and
Tom Mor collectively earned 10 points in the triple jump, with Lind earning the win with a fifth round jump of 13.18-meters. Mor also added five points thanks to a second place finish in the long jump.
When all the final results are recorded, the Pioneers and other CCIW programs will send the top eight conference performers in each event to the CCIW Elite Eight invitational next weekend at Illinois Wesleyan.
