WAUKESHA, Wis. -
Danny McGee finished with two unassisted goals and six ground balls as the Carroll University men's lacrosse team lost to intra-state rival Carthage College 23-3 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin season opener at Schneider Stadium on Friday night.
Carroll was outscored 14-1 in the opening half, including a 7-1 margin in what proved to be a decisive first quarter.
Zach Mehrtens followed with one goal, won 12 faceoffs and collected six ground balls for the Pioneers, who were outshot 77-18 (including a 47-10 shot-on-goal advantage).
Spencer Lautner contributed 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Pioneers.
Ethan Dillon had three ground balls and won two faceoffs.
Airik Ranjo added three ground balls.
Abe Escarda registered 24 saves in playing the entire way.Â
Brad Dodds, Robert Dakan, George Burchfield and Connor Smith each scored two goals for Carthage, which improved to 7-1 overall. Andrew Johnson had a team-high five assists for the Firebirds.
