Carroll suffers first CCIW loss

Pios fall to Univ. of Chicago, snapping nine-game home-field winning streak dating back to last season

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University women's lacrosse team lost to the University of Chicago 15-6 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Schneider Stadium on Wednesday evening.
It was the first home-field loss of the season for Carroll, which came in atop the league standings and riding the momentum of a seven-game winning streak but dropped to 2-1 in conference and 7-2 overall.
The setback snapped the Pioneers' nine-game home-field winning streak dating back to February 26, 2020 (a 21-7 nonconference victory over Beloit College in the home opener).
Chicago, which advanced to the finals of the CCIW Tournament in 2019 (losing to Illinois Wesleyan 11-6), won its conference opener and improved to 4-0 overall.
The Maroon outscored Carroll 10-2 in the decisive first half, generating eight unanswered goals over a game-changing 20-minute stretch.
Michaela Johnson, the reigning CCIW Offensive Player of the Week who currently has 26 goals on the year, contributed two first-half goals, two draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover for Carroll, which equaled its season-low single-game goal total.
Courtenay Karls followed with two goals, four draw controls, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and an assist for the Pioneers, who were outshot 23-14 (including a 20-11 shot-on-goal margin). Clara Jelacic and Katrina Hardin each added a goal.
Rebecca McDaniel registered five saves in playing the entire 60 minutes.
Lulu Hardy finished with four goals, three ground balls and an assist for the Maroon, who have combined to outscore their first four opponents 67-25.
