ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Emily Uitenbroek continued her standout season as she claimed an individual title in the hammer throw, establishing both school and conference-meet records with a distance of 58.61 meters (or 192 feet, 3 inches) as the Carroll University women's track and field team placed sixth at the prestigious nine-team College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin Outdoor Championships (hosted by Augustana College) at Knowlton Outdoor Athletics Complex on Friday.
Uitenbroek, a highly touted graduate student from Kaukauna, Wis. who came into the competition No. 1-seeded in the CCIW and NCAA Division III in the event, lived up to her reputation as one of the premier athletes in the nation by shattering the prior meet record of 56.94m set by North Central's Lina Baker in 2015.
Uitenbroek, who entered the day as the reigning conference outdoor champion and placed third at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships in 2019 to become Carroll's first All-American in the event, accomplished the statement-making feat on her second attempt en route to being named the CCIW's Field Athlete of the Meet.
