WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team decisively won its fifth game of the season on Wednesday night at Lawrence University. The Pioneers defeated the Vikings 2-0 off of goals from
Elizabeth Weinberg and
Grace Tumilty.
The Pioneers (5-0-1, 0-0 CCIW) move to 4-0 on the road after a 27-shot performance. Weinberg led the team with 10 shots tonight, cementing her place in the record book at tied for 8
th most in a single game in history. The Pios collected six points off the two goals and two assists by Simone Lippman and
Ally Scoma.
Rachel Jenewein had a quiet night, only seeing two shots and just one on goal for her lone save. Carroll held possession of the ball for 51% of the game, including 47% of their time inside their attacking box.
Weinberg kept the habit of scoring early on with the first goal of the game coming in the ninth minute. The Pioneer played a chip shot at the top of the box with a defender in her face that found the upper left corner of the net. The Pios picked on Lawrence, taking 17 shots to their one in the first half.
Tumilty's third goal of the season stunned the keeper going to her right and finishing left after a perfect long ball from Scoma in the 67
th minute. Carroll didn't allow the Vikings to take another shot the rest of the game.
Carroll travels again this week to UW-Oshkosh for a tough matchup with the Titans. This will be the first time these teams have faced each other in the last 20 seasons.
