WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University Pioneers played most of the game with a tough Wis.-Platteville team down 0-1, until Simone Lippman scored the equalizer on a header in the 90
th minute. The Pios went on to tie the other Pioneers 1-1 in 2OT.
The Pioneers (3-0-1, 0-0 CCIW) led in total shots on the night, outshooting Platteville 18-8.
Elizabeth Weinberg tallied seven total shots, a new career-high for the sophomore, including four on goal in 110 minutes. Despite giving up an early goal, goalkeeper
Rachel Jenewein made three saves to keep the game close.
After an early goal fifteen minutes into the contest by Platteville, the Pios took over the rest of the game, keeping possession in favor of Carroll. Eight Carroll shots came across in the second half, including Lippman's wide-open header with just 18 seconds left in regulation. Lippman's header would not have been possible without the help of
Kaitlyn Zanon's assist from 40 yards out.
Weinberg took a shot in the 98
th minute of overtime to record the only shot of the period for either team, missing top right.
Alyssa Stuckart took her chance at a shot that was saved by the keeper in the 104
th minute, and soon after Weinberg had another opportunity. Lippman had a chance at the top of the 18-yard box with 49 seconds remaining, but was off target, leaving the match ending in a draw.
Carroll will have some time off until Sunday, Sept. 12 when they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran in Milwaukee for a 1 PM matinee match with the knights.
