Carroll Shuts Down North Park, Clinch Spot in CCIW Tournament

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team pushed out a 1-0 victory over the North Park Vikings on Wednesday night at Schneider Stadium. Elizabeth Weinberg scored the game-winning PK in the second half. With the victory, Carroll clinched a spot in the 2022 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament and will host a quarterfinals contest as the #4 seed.

The Pioneers (10-3-5, 3-1-4 CCIW) didn't score often but they outshot the Vikings 17-3 with five looks on goal to just one from North Park. Weinberg led with seven shot attempts while Maci Bernier added two off the bench. Caitlin Fitzsimons recorded her fourth shutout of the season but didn't come away with a save as the Pio backline stopped an attempt in a crowded box. Carroll had the ball 73% of their possession time on the attacking side of the field.

Both sides played to a 0-0 draw after the first half. Carroll took eight shots and held North Park to just two, but one attempt was on goal. North Park held a slight advantage on the possession in the first 45 minutes. After two shot attempts by Carroll and a scrum inside the box, a penalty kick was awarded, and Weinberg stepped in to score the goal. Carroll continued to pepper the Vikings with three more shots on goal attempts while the defense kept the ball away from Fitzsimons.

The Pioneers will host the #5 seeded Augustana in a CCIW Quarterfinal contest on Saturday, October 29 at 6 PM. This will be the Pioneers' third CCIW Tournament appearance since entering the conference in 2016.
