Kaitlin Gawelski finished with a team-high eight kills to lead a balanced attack as the Carroll University women's volleyball team defeated Elmhurst 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin dual meet at Van Male Field House on Wednesday night.
It was the first conference victory of the season for Carroll, which showcased its resilience by rebounding from frustrating back-to-back league losses to improve to 1-4 in the highly contested conference standings and 9-10 overall.
The Pioneers have won two, four-set matches this fall (with the other coming against Dominican University at the Lake Forest Invitational on Sept. 3.
Ashley Konecki followed with seven kills, four blocks and two service aces for Carroll, which generated double-digit kill totals in three sets with 12 coming in the challenging opener.
Courtney Kirley contributed seven kills and team-best six blocks.
Cora Riffle had 16 assists and four aces,
Alianiz Rivera-Rosado had 18 digs with
Lindsey Diep adding 18 assists.
The Pioneers amassed 41 kills, 10 aces, 10 blocks, 67 digs and 38 assists in the high-energy effort.
Jada Wiley finished with 14 kills, 15 digs and three blocks for Elmhurst, which dropped to 1-4 in conference and 4-10 overall.
