RIPON, Wis. – The Carroll University men's indoor track and field team began the 2022-23 season at the Ripon Winter Open and Multi competition. The Pios finished with 93 team points and walked away with a second-place finish.
Peter Marra set a new Carroll record in the 60m hurdles, while
Nathan Raatz and
Steven Hermsen collected first-place finishes in their events.
In track events, Marra's 60m record of 8.40 was 0.01 seconds faster than his coach
Justin Troeller's record. Marra set the record in prelims, and went on to finish second in the finals with a time of 8.50. Marra also finished in fifth place in the men's 200-meter dash. Rattz's time of 1:58.14 was 0.03 seconds faster than second place from Oshkosh. Raatz was joined in the race by
Austin Sanderfoot and
Ethan Weber who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Trenton Nickel,
Andrew Oresick, and
Jacob Radovan all earned team points in the men's 300-meter.
Kyle Adams collected four team points with a fifth-place finish in the mile race. The men's 4x400 relay team of Sanderfoot, Adams, Weber, and Raatz finished in third for six points.
In field events, Hermsen won the weight throw competition easily, throwing 18.29 meters on his second throw of the afternoon. Hermsen was preceded by
Jimmy Hinkley who finished with a distance of 17.22 meters, while
Juan Ocampo grabbed a team point with an eighth-place finish. Hermsen and
Brady Reusser finished in second and third place, respectively in the shot put competition. TJ Fullilove earned three team points in the men's triple jump, while
David Burgess finished sixth in the high jump.
Carroll will fine-tune their opening weekend mechanics with a trip to UW-Oshkosh next Saturday, December 10.
