Softball Collects Two Morning Wins

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Carroll University softball team extended its winning streak to four games today at Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, Florida, with two victories. 

Game One. --Junior Breanna Roberts was dealing on Sunday, tossing a one-hit shutout to lead the Pioneers over the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors 5-0.

Roberts (1-1) went the distance for Carroll, giving up one hit, walking three and striking out eight.

Senior Kaylee Learman led the way offensively for the Pioneers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with two doubles and two RBIs. Senior Madison Wagner provided a standout effort as well, going 3-for-4. Senior Sierra Grubor also chipped in, going 2-for-3 for Carroll.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers (3-1) took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Carroll scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Learman.

The Pioneers also added runs in the fifth inning when they scored three times.

Freshman Andrea Kuhne (2-0) got the win for Carroll. The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.

Offensively, the Pioneers were led by senior Kaylee Learman, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Senior Madison Wagner furnished a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Junior Mathena Higgins also chipped in for Carroll (WI), putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers (4-1) got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Carroll scored twice, with one run coming across on sophomore Madison Palasz's single.

The Nor'easters failed to push any runs across before the Pioneers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Sophomore Reagan Goluch came across to score the lone run of the inning for Carroll (WI), which brought the Pioneers lead to 3-0.

Carroll kept New England scoreless before building their lead to 6-0 in the fourth inning.

The Nor'easters fought back, closing the gap to 6-1 until Carroll added some insurance in the sixth. The Pioneers scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Wagner and a two-run double from Learman, bringing the Carroll advantage to 10-1. The score remained 10-1 for the rest of the game, as the Pioneers coasted to the win.
