PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Carroll University baseball team lost to Rhodes College 13-2 in seven innings during the fourth round of Studer's Blue Wahoos Challenge at Community Maritime Park's Admiral Fetterman Field on Saturday.
It was the fourth contest of a challenging six-game Spring Break road trip for Carroll, which dropped to 1-3 on the trip and 5-8 overall.
The Pioneers managed their only runs in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single to center field by
Bennet Becker followed by a run-scoring single to left field by
Justin Baker.
Rhodes, which amassed 15 hits and improved to 10-10-1 overall, tied the game with two runs in the top of the third, scored five unanswered runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to pull away.
Nick Angus and
Trevor Benz each added a hit for Carroll, which finished with four hits, stranded seven baserunners and committed an uncharacteristic three errors.
Brett Buzzelli took the pitching loss and dropped his individual record to 1-1 on the season, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits with one strikeout and two walks through four innings.
Carroll is scheduled to face Centre College in a nonconference game Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (EST)
