ELKHORN, Wis. - The Carroll University men's tennis team lost to former Midwest Conference intra-state rival Lawrence University 6-3 in a nonconference dual meet at Four Lakes Athletic Club on Friday evening.
It was the third non-league dual loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 0-3 overall.
The Pioneers showcased glimpses of their potential by equaling a season-high point total with the confidence-building effort, claiming two victories in the singles category and one in doubles.
Luke Barter, a junior from Buffalo Grove, Ill., won at No. 2 singles to lead Carroll while improving his individual season record to 1-2 in duals and 2-4 overall.
Barter demonstrated his mental toughness by defeating Lawrence's Dylan Delgado 6-1, 5-7 (10-5).
Ben Pierson, a junior from Janesville, Wis., captured a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles by defeating Lawrence's Jonathan Hogan 6-2, 7-6 to improve to 1-2 in duals and 2-4 overall.
The Pioneers' final victory came as Pierson combined with
Jordan Nowell, a senior from Waukesha, Wis., at No. 3 doubles.
The experienced Carroll duo defeated Lawrence's Delgado and Hogan by an 8-5 margin, improving to 2-1 in duals and 2-4 overall.
Carroll's season continues with a nonconference dual against Lakeland University at Four Lakes Athletic Club today at 1 p.m.
