WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's lacrosse team won its third straight game and its fourth straight at home against Augsburg by a score of 21-4.
Katrina Hardin scored five times and assisted on two other goals to lead the team in points.
Clara Jelacic set single-game Carroll records with 19 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Jelacic also collected a team-high six ground balls.
The Pioneers (3-1) outshot the Augies 40-8 in this contest, including 31-7 shots on goal. Augsburg recorded 10 saves while the Pioneers tallied three in the fourth quarter. The Pioneers held Augsburg to just 10 of 25 clear attempts, and Carroll collected the draw 22 of 26 times.
Jelacic scored 10 seconds into the game after collecting the draw control. Hardin followed up with two more goals to give Carroll a quick 3-0 lead. Jelacic scored twice more along with
Courtney Wright before Augsburg burst through and got on the board after a clear attempt.
Janu Patel scored off a blocked shot from Jelacic, and that carried Carroll into the second quarter up 7-1. After a slow start to the second, Hardin, Patel, and Wright all scored in just over a minute apart to take a 10-1 lead.
Grace Brockman, who also finished with five assists, scored a man-down goal to start the running clock with 6:53 left in the first half. Carroll went into halftime up 14-1 after a last-second goal from
Ariana Cullam.
Hardin scored quickly to start the second half, starting a 3-0 run for Carroll before Augusburg scored their second. The Auggies scored once more on a free-position shot but Jelacic responded with the 18
th goal of the game for the Pioneers. Wright gave Carroll the 20
th goal of the game early in the final quarter, and Carroll scored once more and allowed one more in the final 13 minutes.
The Pioneers get a preview at the CCIW season with a conference matchup with Elmhurst on Friday, March 11 at home.
