Pioneers Drop Road Contest to Edgewood

VERONA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's lacrosse team suffered a 3-14 road loss to Edgewood on Wednesday night in the suburbs of Madison, Wisconsin. Josh Kovach scored twice for the Pioneers while Sam Kopshinsky assisted on both.
 
The Pioneers (0-2) created 27 total shots, including 13 in the fourth quarter. Cole Faust in at goalie recorded 12 saves, including five in the third period. The Pioneers completed 18 of 27 clear attempts and picked up 62 ground balls led by Spencer Lautner's 16. The Pioneers held the face-off advantage, winning 11 of 22 attempts, paced by Joe Harrison.
 
After winning the opening face-off, the Pioneers and Eagles remained stalled until Edgewood scored a man-up goal after Thaddues Scott went to the penalty box for a cross-check. Edgewood scored four more times in the period and held the Pioneers to six shots and forced 10 turnovers. Edgewood went up 10-0 with 3:55 remaining in the first half. Danny McGee broke the scoreless streak for the Pioneers with an unassisted goal with 2:31 remaining. Carroll ripped off two more shots before the first half buzzer rang but was not able to get anything on goal.
 
Edgewood took advantage of an extra-man opportunity with a goal, after a slashing penalty sent away Kopshinsky. After scoring once more at the 9:41 mark, the Pioneers held Edgewood scoreless for the remainder of the third quarter. Faust recorded four saves for the remainder of the period. The Eagles hit goal number 14 with 10:55 left on the clock, and Kovach scored twice later in the quarter before the game ended.
 
Carroll returns to the field after spring break and heads North to Ashland, Wisconsin, for a match with Northland College.
