Pios Drop Two Games to Non-Conference Chicago

The Carroll University softball team fell in two straight games for just the second time this season on Tuesday night to the University of Chicago Maroons. 

GAME 1 | Chicago 3, Carroll (WI) 1

WAUKESHA, Wis. --The Chicago Maroons were too much for Carroll in game one as the Pioneers lost 3-1.

Junior Grace Bradley (4-4) got the ball to start for Carroll (13-6) and took the loss. Junior Breanna Roberts was a bright spot for the Pioneers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing five scoreless innings, allowing two hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Junior Lauren Harshbarger led the way offensively for the Pioneers, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 3-0, the Pioneers first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Freshman Kaitlyn Reed came across to score the lone run of the inning for Carroll and get them on the board. The Pioneers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

WAUKESHA, Wis. --Senior Madison Wagner went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI for the Carroll Pioneers in a 7-3 loss to Chicago.

Freshman Riley Pavelka (3-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Carroll (13-7). Junior Breanna Roberts was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.2 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.

Offensively, the Pioneers were paced by Wagner, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Sophomore Sydney Raddeman furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Madison Palasz also contributed for Carroll, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers were trailing 2-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Carroll plated two runs when Wagner left the yard with junior Mathena Higgins aboard.

The Maroons broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fourth inning, when the Pioneers got back on the scoreboard. Carroll pushed across a run on Raddeman's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Maroons. The Pioneers were unable to get any closer, as Chicago added two runs to their tally on the way to a 7-3 final.
