CHICAGO, Ill. – The Carroll University women's lacrosse team fell to the No. 21 University of Chicago Maroons to fall out of first place in the CCIW standings, with a 5-26 loss.
Abby Stas led the team with three points, getting two assists and one goal.
Katrina Hardin finished with a team-high two goals.
The Pioneers (7-5, 2-1 CCIW) drop their second consecutive game for the first time this season. Carroll kept it close in the first half but surrendered 15 unanswered goals in the second half. Carroll only recorded seven shots, but all seven were on goal. The Pios turned the ball over 29 times and only converted 13-24 clear attempts. The Pios came away with 10 draw controls, as
Clara Jelacic and Stas came away with three apiece.
Chicago began the game with a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of the first quarter, but the Pios didn't flinch. Hardin scored the first goal of the game assisted by Stas, as she came across GLE. The Maroons picked up a free position goal with 5:19 left in the first quarter and scored once more with under a minute left.
Rebecca McDaniel came away with four saves in the first quarter. Chicago started the second quarter with four unanswered goals before Stas scored on a free position shot. Jelacic followed up with a goal assisted by Stas, and finally, a goal from Hardin cut the lead down to five. UC scored once more in the first half to go into the break up 10-4.
The Pios surrendered a goal quickly, but
Janu Patel scored quickly after Stas earned a draw control. That would be the lone shot of the second half for the Pioneers, as UC went on a 15-0 run the remainder of the game.
Carroll will finally have two home games over the next three games to close out the regular season, starting next Wednesday, April 20 against North Central in Waukesha.
