ELMHURST, Ill. – The Carroll University men's lacrosse team began its conference portion of its season against Elmhurst on Saturday, falling 4-25 against the Bluejays.
Zach Mehrtens scored two goals and assisted on another Pio score, while
Spencer Lautner grabbed five ground balls and caused a turnover.
The Pioneers (1-5, 0-1 CCIW) tallied nine shots and recorded 14 saves. Carroll went 15-28 on clear attempts and grabbed 20 ground balls. The Pioneers played a clean game, not sending anyone to the penalty box all contest.
Carroll failed to record a shot in the first quarter and went into the second period down 12 to the Bluejays.
Joe Harrison won three face-off attempts in the first quarter as well. Carroll got on the board five minutes into the second quarter with a shot and goal by
Zach Mehrtens. Later in the period, after a successful clear attempt,
Josh Kovach scored assisted by Mehrtens with 30 seconds to go in the first half.
Mehrtens found the back of the net once more in the expiring moments of the third quarter, and
Isaac Williams scored towards the beginning of the fourth after Lautner won the face-off.
Carroll will return to Elmhurst next week Sunday, April 10, in a neutral site contest against new CCIW opponent Transylvania University.
