WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's lacrosse team put up a strong effort against North Central in the second half, but the Cardinals grabbed the win 22-6 over the Pioneers.
Danny McGee led the team with two goals, while
Isaac Williams and
Joe Harrison both added two points to the Pio point total.
Spencer Lautner picked up 13 ground balls.
The Pioneers (1-8, 0-3 CCIW) were outscored in the first half 16-2 but came out of the halftime break with four unanswered goals. Carroll tallied just 11 shots, but six in the third quarter.
Cole Faust added 22 saves to his season total after facing 72 shots. The Pios committed 42 turnovers but caused 15 of the Cardinals' 33. The Pios went 22-40 on clear attempts and picked up 43 ground balls.
Carroll was held scoreless in the first quarter, allowing nine unanswered goals to start. McGee scored the first of the game for the Pioneers, on an unassisted shot with 10:53 left in the first half. Out of a timeout,
Josh Kovach scored on his own accord to cut the lead down to 13 for NCC.
Coming out of halftime down 16-2, Carroll scored four times in the first five minutes to cut the lead down to 10.
Isaac Williams, Lautner, and Harrison all collected goals during the run. The Cardinals were only able to score on a man-up opportunity after Harrison was called offsides. Carroll fell cold again in the fourth quarter, allowing the Cardinals to expand their lead to 16.
Carroll travels to Illinois Wesleyan this Saturday, April 23 for the final road contest of the season.
