NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Carroll University baseball team lost to first-place and No. 12-ranked North Central College 13-2 in a seven-inning College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Zimmerman Stadium on Sunday.
Carroll, which entered the contest riding the momentum of back-to-back victories, dropped to 7-7 in conference and 14-18 overall.
North Central, which improved to 26-8 overall, scored eight unanswered runs over the course of the opening two innings to pull away.
Carroll scored its two runs in the top of the seventh on an RBI groundout by
Nick Angus followed by a run-scoring single to left field by
Thomas Ward.
Ward and
Brad Vosters each contributed two hits to lead a seven-hit offensive attack for the Pioneers, who stranded six baserunners.
Bryce Spaulding, a junior right-hander from Racine, Wis., took the pitching loss to drop to 2-1 overall on the season.
