Carroll Softball Drops Non-Conference Finale

The Carroll University softball team lost both games in the final non-conference doubleheader of the season on Wednesday, falling to Wisconsin-Whitewater on the road. 

GAME 1 | Wisconsin-Whitewater 8, Carroll (WI) 3

WHITEWATER, Wis. --Senior Kaylee Learman racked up three hits, but the Carroll Pioneers fell to the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks 8-3 Wednesday.

Freshman Riley Pavelka (5-3) got the ball to start for Carroll (18-11) and took the loss.

Learman's three-hit day led the Pioneers offensively. Junior Lauren Harshbarger compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a double. Freshman Antoinette Napoli also chipped in for Carroll, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Carroll got an RBI single from sophomore Madison Palasz, scoring senior Sierra Grubor from second base.

After the Warhawks rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Pioneers came back to retake the lead in the third inning. Carroll scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Madison Wagner, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Pioneers.

Carroll's lead had disappeared once the sixth inning arrived and turned into a 7-2 Whitewater advantage, when the Pioneers cut that deficit to 7-3. The Pioneers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Napoli. The Pioneers were unable to get any closer, as Whitewater added one run to their tally on the way to an 8-3 final.

WHITEWATER, Wis. --The Pioneers got a boost from sophomore Madison Palasz, who racked up three hits in a 5-3 loss to the Warhawks Wednesday.

Freshman Andrea Kuhne (3-1) got the ball to start for Carroll (18-12) and took the loss.

In addition to her three hits, Palasz had an RBI to lead the Pioneers. Junior Kate Christian put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Senior Sierra Grubor also helped out for Carroll, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Carroll got an RBI single from Christian, scoring Palasz from third base.

The Warhawks then scored two runs to retake their advantage heading into the third inning, when the Pioneers responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Palasz's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Carroll scored twice, which evened the score at 3-3. Wisconsin-Whitewater then scored two times over the remaining three innings to break the tie and toke a 5-3 lead. The Pioneers had bases loaded with one out in the top of the sixth inning, but the game was called due to darkness.
