WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Carroll University men's track and field team posted strong marks at the Drake Alternative meet hosted by UW-Whitewater on Friday. Eleven Pios finished with top-eight placements in their respected events, while
Steven Hermsen took the lone victory of the afternoon in the discus throw.
In track events,
Peter Marra made the finals in the 110-meter hurdles and took fifth place in the event with a time of 15.22. Marra finished third in the 400-meter hurdles event as well with a time of 55.09.
Trenton Nickel finished 4
th in the deep 400m dash race, finishing with a sub-50 second time.
Nathan Raatz finished in third just tenths of a second off the leader in the men's 800.
Zach Benes finished fourth in the heated 1500-meter run, while
Kyle Adams came in seventh in the men's 5000-meter race.
In field and throwing events, Hermsen won the discus throw by over five meters (55.24 meters), outpacing Division I throwers from Wisconsin and Marquette. Hermsen followed up his performance with a fourth-place finish in shot put, and an eighth-place finish in the hammer. Hermsen was .10 meters away from the outdoor shot-put school record.
David Burgess reached 1.85 meters to finish in eight place in the high jump. The men's 4x400 team comprised of Marra, Nickel, Benes, and Raatz finished in second place with a time of 3:19.71. The 4x100 team of
Patrick Send,
Troy Burkert,
Sheldon Achs, and Josh Petalber came in fourth place.
