MEQUON, Wis. – The Carroll University women's lacrosse team took care of Concordia Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon on the road with a 19-3 victory. The Pioneers move to above .500 on the road this season.
Katrina Hardin led the team with nine points dispersed by seven goals and two assists on 10 shots.
Clara Jelacic added six goals with 11 draw controls and seven ground balls.
The Pioneers (7-3, 2-0 CCIW) ripped off 10 shots on goal in the first quarter, and 18 the rest of the contest once they had a commanding 8-0 lead after the first 15 minutes. Carroll stayed under 20 turnovers and converted on all 12 of their clear attempts. 18 of the 25 draw controls went to the Pios, and Carroll scored on seven free-position shots, with six through the first three quarters.
Grace Brockman scored the first goal of the game for the Pios, cashing in on a free-position attempt three minutes into the game. Hardin scored twice and
Abby Stas scored another causing a CUW timeout with 5:22 left in the first period. Hardin scored and assisted on three of the Pioneers' final five goals, while Jelacic recorded two. Carroll began the running clock at the 12:58 mark of the second period after Jelacic scored off a pass from
Lexi Kaltenberg. With an 11-0 lead, the Falcons scored just with just over 20 seconds left in the first half to cut the Carroll lead to 10.
The Pioneers tallied seven more goals coming out of halftime, started by a Hardin score assisted by Jelacic. The Pioneers ran the score up to 18-2 in the third quarter, with Brockman scoring goal number 18 off a pass from Jelacic. Jelacic added one more goal to her total, assisted by Kaltenberg with just over six minutes remaining in the game. The Falcons tacked on one more 53 seconds before the final buzzer.
The Pioneers have a long journey up to UW-River Falls on Sunday to take on the undefeated Falcons at 3 PM.
