DECATUR, Ill. --The no. 3 seeded Carroll University softball team had a tough showing in the opeing round of the 2022 CCIW Softball Tournament, falling to the no. 2 seeded Illinois Wesleyan Titans 9-1 despite the efforts of senior Madison Wagner, who went 1-for-3 with a double.
Freshman Riley Pavelka (6-4) got the ball to start for Carroll (19-14) and took the loss.
Wagner led the way offensively for the Pioneers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a double. Sophomore Bridget Rath put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Kaitlyn Reed scored the lone run of the game off Rath's RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Pioneers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Carroll got an RBI single from Rath, scoring Reed from third base. The Pioneers were unable to get any closer, as Illinois Wesleyan added six runs to their tally on the way to a 9-1 final.
