Carroll finishes 1-1 on opening day of Coe College Tournament

Pioneers defeat Buena Vista University in second match five-set thriller

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Carroll University women's volleyball team went 1-1 during the opening day of competition at the Coe College Tournament (in Kohawk Arena) on Friday, losing the opening dual to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 and winning the second in a five-set thriller over Buena Vista University 25-22, 25-20, 13-25, 30-32, 15-11.
Carroll is currently 4-2 overall.

vs. UW-Platteville
Katie Jensen generated a team-high eight kills to lead Carroll in the opening-round loss to Coe. Rebekah Andreae contributed five kills and three blocks. Ashley Konecki finished with four kills, three blocks and a service ace.
Cathleen Flannery followed with nine digs and three aces. Cora Riffle added six digs and 13 assists for Carroll.
UW-Platteville remained undefeated and improved to 6-0 overall.

vs. Buena Vista
Kaitlin Gawelski registered an individual season-high 15 kills, Jensen followed with 14 kills and Peyton Frost had 11 kills to lead the Pioneers offensive attack versus Buena Vista.
Konecki contributed three service aces and four blocks for the Pioneers, who generated 72 points, 55 kills, 10 aces, 70 digs, seven blocks and 53 assists in the five-set marathon. Maggie McGough followed with three aces and 21 digs.
Lindsey Diep had nine digs and 23 assists for the Pioneers, who produced 10 kills, committed only one error and had .529 hitting percentage in the decisive fifth set. Cora Riffle added 26 assists.
Clinging to a 13-11 lead in the fifth set, the Pioneers responded with back-to-back kills by Jensen and Jadyn Holman to seal a hard-fought victory.
