WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team surrendered an unlikely goal to the Coe College Kohawks in the first half, but responded with three unanswered goals to take the 3-1 victory at Schneider Stadium.
Grace Tumilty finished with five shots and an assist while three separate Pios scored goals.
The Pioneers (4-1) ripped off 28 shots with 16 on goal, but only found nylon 3 times.
Caitlin Fitzsimons recorded two saves on the lone three shots on goal by the Kohawks. Carroll's attack forced 17 corner kicks and held the Kohawsk to 0. Carroll held the ball for 55 minutes, and over half of that time was in the box.
Tumilty recorded four shots, three of which were on goal, within the first seven minutes of the game. After the Pios let off the gas a bit, Coe found light at the end of the tunnel, after a yellow card gave the team a free kick. The kick was rebounded and shot on for a goal in the 34
th minute. The Pios responded 10 minutes later with a goal from
Brielle Ingalsbee.
Maci Bernier crossed a ball to the high post that Ingalsbee went up and got with a header.
15 minutes into the second half,
Maddie Belo found the back of the net after her initial shot was saved and rebounded back towards her. Six minutes later, the Pios came right back with a low side corner kick from Tumilty, passed up to
Simone Lippmann, who finished the goal with her head. Carroll finished the game by keeping the pressure on, taking six more shots over the final 24 minutes.
Carroll will take a trip to Beloit on Saturday, September 17 for a quick match against the Bucs.
