WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team racked up five goals to celebrate seven Pio seniors on Sunday afternoon against Alma in a 5-1 win. Simone Lipman scored two goals while
Jessica Stepien assisted on three.
The Pioneers (5-1-1) recorded 11 shots on target and 19 overall in the victory.
Grace Tumilty shot the ball four times, while four others had three shots apiece. Carroll was dominant in the opponent box, forcing 12 corner kicks.
Caitlin Fitzsimons tallied two saves over 76 minutes for the win. The Pioneers held the ball for over 55 minutes during the win.
Megan Smekrud's saved shot attempt ricocheted off the keeper and led to a tap-in for Lippman in just the seventh minute of the game. The Pioneers tallied seven more shots the remainder of the first half but didn't find the nylon again until after the halftime break.
Stepien led a pass to a sprinting
Elizabeth Weinberg down the left-hand side, un-guarded, she found Lippman in the middle of the field that led to a one-on-one with the keeper. Lippman put the ball low left for the score. 1:12 later Smekrud found a pass from Stepien in a crowded box and took a chance at the goal to advance the score to 3-0. The next shot attempt later by the Scots broke the shutout attempt, but Carroll added two more insurance goals, one by Tumilty from Stepien, and another from a Weinberg free kick.
Carroll has one more tune up this week before CCIW matches begin, with a battle slatted against UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday September 21 at 4 PM up in Stevens Point.
