Women’s Soccer Gets WIAC Win over UW-SP

STEVENS POINT, Wis – The Carroll University women's soccer team moved to 2-0 on the season so far against teams from the WIAC, after the Pioneers took down Wisconsin Stevens-Point on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 4-2. Grace Tumilty and Brielle Ingalsbee scored twice for the Pios in the victory.

The Pioneers (6-1-1) ripped off 28 shots to tie for their season-best with 10 attempts on goal. Tumilty tied for the fourth most shots in a Carroll women's soccer game in history with 10 on Wednesday. Caitlin Fitzsimons faced 11 shots, recorded five saves, and allowed two goals. Carroll held the ball for nearly half of their possession inside the Pointers' box, despite only holding the ball for 34% of the 90 minutes.

Tumilty scored quickly into the first half, notching her fourth goal of the season off a pass from Simone Lippmann in the 10th minute. Tumily went right back to work, getting a shot blocked soon after a Pioneer corner. The Pios slipped up and let UW-SP break away for an unassisted goal in the 22'nd minute to equalize the score. Ingalsbee entered the game in the 23'rd minute and scored in the 30th unassisted. After a blocked Ingalsbee shot, UW-SP flipped the field to tie the game back up at 2-2. The Pioneers took two more shots that were off target by the end of the first half.

Ingalsbee started the second half for the Pois and after two blocked shot attempts, found the back of the net for her second of the night and took the lead in the 69th minute. The Pointers began to give Carroll trouble on the opposite end of the field, but Tumilty broke away and scored her second of the night to double-up Point in the 80th minute. Neither team took a shot for the remainder of the half.

Carroll begins the CCIW portion of their schedule on Saturday, September 24 against Millikin at Schneider Stadium. The Pios are 5-0 against Millikin since entering the league in 2016.
