LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Carroll University women's volleyball team responded with back-to-back dual-meet victories during the final day of the Forrester Invitational on Saturday, defeating Dominican University in four sets 25-15, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23 and prevailing versus host Lake Forest in a five-set thriller 19-25, 25-16, 27-29, 25-15, 15-8.
Carroll, which finished 2-1 in the two-day competition, showcased its resilience by bouncing back from Friday's opening-round five-set loss to Lakeland University, improved to 3-1 overall on the early season with the confidence-building road effort.
Jadyn Holman finished with 38 kills in the tournament for the Pioneers.
vs. Dominican University
Jadyn Holman finished with a team-high 12 kills as Carroll earned its first four-set victory of the young season.
Rebekah Andreae contributed 10 kills and three blocks in the dominant performance for the Pioneers, who generated 71 points, 54 kills, 64 digs, 51 assists, nine service aces and eight blocks.
Peyton Frost followed with nine kills.
Cora Riffle had three aces, eight digs and 23 assists,
Lindsey Diep had 21 assists and
Ashley Konecki collected four blocks for Carroll.
Cathleen Flannery added eight kills, 15 digs and two aces.
The Pioneers demonstrated their offensive firepower in the decisive fourth set, amassing 19 kills including back-to-back kills by Konecki and Andreae to seal a victory.
vs. Lake Forest
Holman contributed an individual season-best 16 kills and three blocks in the five-set finale versus former Midwest Conference rival Lake Forest.
It was the first five-set victory of the season for Carroll, which generated 64 points, 48 kills, 59 digs, 42 assists, 10 blocks and six aces.
Leading 11-8 in the decisive fifth set, the Pioneers answered with four consecutive points to cap the day (including a final kill by Konecki).
Grace Perret followed with nine kills, 15 digs and an ace for Carroll.
Katie Jensen collected eight kills and four blocks, Andreae had seven blocks and three assists. Riffle had seven digs, 18 assists and two aces.
Maggie McGough had 16 digs and Diep added 16 assists.
