Carroll Advances Shutout Streak Against Wisconsin Lutheran

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team moved to 9-0 against Wisconsin Lutheran College since 2003 with a 4-0 victory over the Warriors on Thursday night at Schneider Stadium. Elizabeth Weinberg scored twice in the victory.

The Pioneers (2-0) ripped off 25 shots with 14 on target. On top of the shutout, Carroll only allowed two shots during the whole contest. Isabel Kothe led the team with six shots, followed by Weinberg with five and Ally Scoma with four off the bench. The Pioneers held the ball for 63% of the contest, despite being called offsides 15 times. Over half of the time with the ball, Carroll had possession in the Warriors keeper's box.

Weinberg started the scoring by finally breaking through the back line after a perfect through ball from Jessica Stepien. Weinberg scored low right from the left side of the box. A foul inside the box led to a penalty kick opportunity for Grace Tumilty, who scored her first goal of the season to advance the lead to two goals. After moving to her bench, Maci Bernier scored her first career collegiate goal after another perfect pass from Stepien just before the half.

After recording 19 shots in the first half, Carroll and WLC spent more time fighting for possession, but Weinberg scored once again in the 59' minute on a double assist from Kenzie Blau and Tumilty. Blau fed Tumilty, who fed Weinberg as she sprinted past the back line for a one-on-one with the keeper. With the bench emptied, the Pios held on to their lead and shutout streak.

Carroll hosts Calvin on Saturday, September 10 at 2:30 PM. This will be the first time the Pioneers have faced Calvin, a team that qualified for the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
