Elmhurst, Ill. – The Carroll University Men's basketball team falls short in the second half to the Elmhurst Bluejays on the road. The Pios struggled shooting the ball only making 35.9% of their shots on the night.
Justin Steinike made 5-10 three-point attempts and lead the Pios with 21 points on the night.
The Pioneers (4-11, 1-5 CCIW) tied their season high of 10 steals during the game.
Kobe Simpson led the team with 5 steals on the night, which was also a career-high for the Pioneer. Carroll started off shooting 36.8% from the arc in the first half to keep them in the game, as the half ended 34-39. The Pioneers struggled to grab rebounds, as they only grabbed 33 on the night, which was led by Steinike grabbing seven. Seven, of those rebounds, were offensive, which allowed the Pios to secure 13 second-chance points.
Evan Bland added 7 points in a career-high night, to lead the Carroll bench points, which produced 19 points on the night.
Carroll started the game up 11-3, from a Steinike 5-0 run to open the game. This was followed by a
Paradisio Dante paint shot. Steinike grabbed an offensive board and put it back in to push the lead to 9-3.
Eckahelo Simpson then blocked a shot on the other end of the floor, which turned into a jump shot for
Aaron Wafford to push the lead to 11-3, leading to a Bluejays Timeout. With 5:13 left in the first half Elmhurst went on their own 10-0 run to a five-point lead going into the half. The second half opened up with the Pios and Bluejays trading buckets before the Bluejay went on another 10-0 run with 13:57 left in the game, pushing Elmhurst up 48-61. The Pioneers tried to fight back into the game but were unable to, as Elmhurst continued to score and pushed the score to 60-85 with 1:45 to play.
The Pios continue the CCIW gauntlet with their third straight road game at North Park University on January 14 at 4:15 PM, in Chicago, Ill.
