Women’s Hoops Runs Past Elmhurst

Every available Pio saw action tonight

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's basketball team scored 80+ points for the third time this season as they moved Past Elmhurst University 81-44. Olivia Ragnel scored 16 points in 19 minutes with five assists, three re bounds, and two steals. Emilie Wizner poured in 10 points off the bench.
 
The Pioneers (9-6, 4-2 CCIW) made over half of their shots from the floor and were 5-16 from beyond the arc in the win. Carroll hauled in 45 rebounds, 15 of which were offensive boards, leading to 17 second chance points. Carroll put up 52 points in the paint, and scored 25 points off 19 Elmhurst turnovers forced from 13 steals. 19 of Carroll's 33 baskets were assisted.
 
The Pios began the game with an early 9-3 lead before Elmhurst landed their second shot. Carroll's lead grew to 10 at 3:31 in the first quarter after Wizner knocked down a three-pointer. Natalie Gricius and Lauren Soyke capped off the Pioneer 7-0 run after the media timeout to take a 26-9 lead into the second quarter. Olivia Rangel's three-point play at the 7:55 mark of the second quarter gave the sophomore her 10th point of the night. Carroll's lead ballooned to 25 after Rangel fed Palzkill on a fast-break layup off a steal. Gricius added four more points as Carroll flirted with a 30-point lead going into halftime. Rangel finished the first half with 14 points.
 
Carroll got up to 35 after Foster knocked down her first three-pointer of the night off a Rangel pass. Anna Nielsen picked off the Bluejays, got an offensive rebound, and cashed in on her second basket of the night to push the lead to 62-25 with 4:20 left in the third. Wizner put down another three-ball to give Carroll a 42-point lead, their largest of the evening. Nielsen led the Pioneers in the fourth quarter with three-points, as five other Pios got on the board with baskets.
 
Taylor Harazin led Elmhurst with 18 points on 8-15 shooting from the line.
 
Carroll gets back on the road this Saturday, January 14 to take on North Park in Chicago, Illinois at 2 PM.
