Pios Struggle on the Road Against the Vikings

Rock Island, Ill. – It was not Carroll's night on the road, as they came up short 59-91. The Vikings shot an impressive 50.7% on 36-71 shots. The Pios only got up 52 shots on the night, on just 44.2% shooting. Paradisio Dante shot 8-10 from the field and lead all Pioneer scorers with 19.

The Pioneers (4-10, 1-4 CCIW) secured 27 rebounds and forced 9 turnovers throughout the game. Carroll shot 42.3% in the first half finding themselves down 28-52 to the Augustana. Eckahelo Simpson led the Pioneers with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The Pioneers bench contributed 23 points on the night. Ethan Balinao gave the Pios a spark off the bench with 10 points on 4-5 shooting. Carroll struggled to get points in transition only scoring 4 fast break points.

Carroll and Augustana started the game trading baskets, as Dante found a transition basket early off an Aaron Wafford steal. This was followed by a Kobe Simpson three-point shot to give the Pios an early 9-6 lead. The Vikings then went on a 6-0 run to regain the lead, which they held for the rest of the game. The Pios were still in striking distance of the Vikings, but with 2:59 left in the first half, the Vikings went on an 11-0 run to end the half, 28-52. Coming out of the half the Pios and Vikings continued to trade buckets from the start of the second half. With 11:05 to go in the game, the Pios cut the lead to 18 on a Balinao jump shot, with hopes for a second-half comeback. The Vikings responded with a 12-0 run to push the lead to 30 with 7:36 to go in the game.

The Pios look to bounce back from the loss against the Elmhurst Blue Jays on January 11 at 7 PM, in Elmhurst, Ill.
